The nuts and Bolts

Useful information about your holiday

Still Undecided?

I thoroughly recommend Italy Bike Tours for a great Giro D’Italia experience. I hired an ebike for the 12 day tour and was able to complete all the rides/ climbs although I am not a strong rider. The Italy Bike team were super organised leaving nothing to chance (including recharging e-bikes at lunch stops), but were also flexible so that stronger riders could get more climbing in while we relaxed. The scenery was spectacular and the food amazing!! Thank you so much to all the team, especially Alberto, Matt & Matt, Savi, Silvia, Carlos and Ivan!!

Drop off location

Following the conclusion of the tour we will assist you with planning and booking of onward travel. We will run one transfer to Bologna Airport (BLQ) leaving in the late morning.

Transfer time

Please consider eating lunch before we collect you from Florence (FLR). The transfer time from Florence (FLR) to Castellina in Chianti is around 1 hour.

Riding in Tuscany

The general road conditions in Tuscany are good. Most routes are well-paved for smooth rides, though rural roads may have rough patches or iconic gravel sections, like the Strade Bianche. Traffic is generally light, and drivers are cyclist-friendly. The Giro is a very busy period as you would expect. We ride mainly on the Giro route so the roads will be partly closed with the tifosi lining the route.

Cuisine

Tuscany's cuisine is simple, rustic, and deeply rooted in its agricultural heritage, speak to your guide about typical food from the region- there is so much more to Italy than pizza and pasta! Restaurants now cater for both vegan and vegetarians. Homemade local wines and beer a must to try. Please let us know about any special dietry requirements before the tour.

Hotel facilities

The hotels (Castellina and Viareggio) have pools so we recommend bringing swimming costumes. The hotels also have good wifi and bar service. All our hotels have air conditioning. Hotels may charge extra for the use of some of these facilities.

Private tours & groups

We welcome the opportunity to discuss with you a private tour should you be in a group of more than six people. The private tour allows you to choose dates and personalise the itinerary according to your requirements.

Weather

The weather during May in Tuscany is really good. Tuscany experiences mild to warm spring weather, making it an excellent time to visit. Average temperatures range from 16°C (59°F) in the early mornings and evenings to around 23°C (72°F) during the day. Please check the weather beforehand and pack accordingly, you can always leave extra clothing in the support vehicle.
