They were really good and I can compare it with a previous Italian Trek experience. This was so much more genuine and our guide Christian and mechanic / driver Nicola were just great people who we came to regard as friends.

Itinerary

45 km | 280 m

After meeting at Catania Airport, your Sicily cycling tour begins with a scenic drive south along the Ionian coast, once sailed by merchants of the Byzantine Empire.

En route, we pass through Noto, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its Baroque architecture. Our destination is the charming Zahir Country House Hotel, complete with a spa, pool, and beach nearby.

After bike fitting and setup, we enjoy a gentle warm-up ride to the historic fishing village of Marzamemi, a picturesque coastal gem dating back to Spanish rule.

Today’s flat ride takes us to Modica, the second UNESCO World Heritage Site of our Sicily cycling tour — and it’s only day two!

Set atop a dramatic plateau carved by deep canyons, Modica is famous for its striking Baroque architecture and its unique chocolate tradition, dating back to the Aztecs and introduced by the Spanish in the 16th century.

Cyclists will love this sweet energy boost, celebrated each year at the Choco Barocco international chocolate festival.

Today’s rolling ride takes us on a true journey through time - the kind only cycling in Sicily can offer. We begin at Noto Antica, a walled town with layers of history: founded by the Greeks, fortified by the Romans, and later shaped by Arab influence.

From there, we ride to Palazzolo Acreide, mentioned in Thucydides’ History of the Peloponnesian War (5th century BC). Surrounded by ancient ruins and home to UNESCO-listed 18th-century basilicas, it’s a highlight of any Sicily cycling tour.

Our day ends with a sunset dinner overlooking the stunning coastline of Siracusa.

We settle into the beautiful Capotaormina Hotel and enjoy a more relaxed day exploring one of Sicily’s most iconic towns.

Today’s ride is a gentle coastal loop along the Ionian Sea, perfect for soaking in the views and recharging. The focus is on leisure - easy pedaling, local flavors, and discovering the timeless charm of Taormina, a hilltop gem that has captivated artists and travelers for centuries, nestled between the sparkling sea and the dramatic slopes of Mount Etna.

If you have seen Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, you already know some of today’s 50 km hilly ride. The fictional village of Corleone was actually a composite of several of today’s destinations, Forza d’Agro and astonishing Savoca, which is listed as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages but is really a collection of about 100 tiny hamlets, set on a rocky hillside.

The bar where Michael Corleone first spoke to Mr Vitelli, Apollonia's father, is really Savoca’s 18th-century Palazzo Trimarchi. You can’t come to Sicily and not pay it a visit!

Start your day with a refreshing coastal bike ride in Sicily, enjoying the sea breeze and scenic views. Ride up to Castelmola, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages, for a coffee break overlooking Taormina and the Ionian Sea. Then return to the hotel for check-out and transfer to Catania Airport, wrapping up your unforgettable Italy Bike Tours adventure.
