Stages of your Tour
Passo stelvio
45 km | 1450m climb.
After our airport rendezvous, we arrive at your hotel in Bormio to meet our guides, adjust our bikes, then boom……. take on the towering Stelvio. As the Giro riders enjoy a well-deserved rest day, we devour the 21.5 km ascent of Italy’s highest paved mountain pass. Every one of its 40 hairpins will soon be a cherished memory.
Hotel Alpenstage 16 start
56 KM | 1870m climb
Between reaching the stage start at Livigno, we pass Italy’s highest village, Trepalle (6788 feet). The VIP area is a fanboy’s paradise: you are so close to the riders that you can steal selfies, collect autographs, even exchange words. After the stage start, we drive to the Dolomites then ride to beautiful Corvara, home of the famous Maratona dles Dolomites.
Dolomit Boutique Hotel
sellaronda
61 km | 1780m climb
Corvara is on the Maratona dles Dolomites route, with four climbs: the Campolongo, the mythical Pordoi, Passo Sella and Passo Gardena. We ride half of the circuit, watch the Giro pass, then ride the rest to get home. It’s not hard to describe: it will be, quite simply, one of the most beautiful rides of your life. Easier said than done.
Dolomit Boutique Hotel
passo valparola
50 km | 1330m climb
While the Giro heads for the flatlands south of the mountains, we continue our exploration of the stunning Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it comes as no surprise to hear, since 2009. We climb the Valparola Pass, the last of the seven which make up the annual Maratona dles Dolomites, and first included in the Giro d'Italia in 1976.
Dolomit Boutique Hotel
sappada
53 km | 840m climb
We transfer to the beautiful Cadore valley and ride the stage route to the finish in beautiful Sappada, a member of the association of Italy’s most beautiful villages and, curiously, a tiny German language island. There, before the pros arrive, we ride across the finish line in front of the tifosi, and climb onto the podium to be photographed for posterity.
Realis Le Betulle
MONTE GRAPPA
85KM | 2210m CLIMB
A UNESCO biosphere reserve in the Venetian Prealps, Monte Grappa is where Nairo Quintana secured victory in the 2014 Giro d’Italia, in a joyous festive atmosphere. The 2024 edition too will be decided there. We will ride from our hotel to the climb, and have a buffet lunch while watching the race on TV before the riders come past.
Relais Le Betulle

transit to rome
The Giro concludes with a ceremonial stage around the Eternal City, Rome. The morning train takes us across Italy into the city centre. After checking in to our hotel, we set out to explore the sights and then attack VIP catering beside the finish line (for those who have added this to their package). Then it’s out on the town for a final celebration in the Italian capital.

Useful information about your holiday
Still Undecided?
I thoroughly recommend Italy Bike Tours for a great Giro D’Italia experience. I hired an ebike for the 12 day tour and was able to complete all the rides/ climbs although I am not a strong rider. The Italy Bike team were super organised leaving nothing to chance (including recharging e-bikes at lunch stops), but were also flexible so that stronger riders could get more climbing in while we relaxed. The scenery was spectacular and the food amazing!! Thank you so much to all the team, especially Alberto, Matt & Matt, Savi, Silvia, Carlos and Ivan!!

Riding in Northern Italy |
The general road conditions in Northern Italy are good. The Giro is a very busy period as you would expect. We ride on mainly the Giro route so the roads will be partly closed with the Tifosi lining the route. When we are not on race route the roads are shared with vehicles and other cyclists. |
Cuisine |
The food, as one may expect, in Lombardy and Trento is excellent - some might say the best in Italy, there are a lot of local specialities that you can look forward to enjoying. Restaurants now cater for both vegan and vegetarians. Homemade local wines and beer a must to try. |
Hotel Facilities |
The hotels on this tour have spas and pools so we recommend bringing swimming costumes. The hotel also have good wifi and bar service. All our hotels have air conditioning. Hotels may charge extra for the use of these facilities. |
Private Tours & Groups |
We welcome the opportunity to discuss with you a private tour should you be in a group of more than six people. The private tour allows you to choose dates and personalise the itinerary according to your requirements. |
Weather |
The weather in May in Northern Italy is generally good. However in the high mountains the weather can change very quickly. Our highly experienced guides and tour managers will adjust the itinerary for the day accordingly if required, with safety as our paramount concern. |
